NHIAA Tournaments: Two champs crowned todayStaff Report

Someone better bring scissors to cut down the nets. The first two NHIAA basketball champions of 2013 will be crowned today.
Defending champion White Mountains of Whitefield plays Bow in the Division III girls' final at Southern New Hampshire University at 4 p.m., and Colebrook and Groveton clash for the Division IV girls' championship at Plymouth State University at noon.
Fourth-ranked White Mountains (18-3) stormed into the Division III final by crushing No. 1 Conant of Jaffrey, 46-31, and second-ranked Bow (19-1) continued to roll through the playoffs with a 36-31 victory against Bishop Brady of Concord.
Fourth-ranked Groveton (17-4) has allowed only 29.3 points per game in three Division IV playoff contests. Third-ranked Colebrook (18-3) has scored an average of 65.3 points per game in the postseason.
In other tournament games, the Division I girls' basketball quarterfinals begin today with No. 1 Bishop Guertin of Nashua hosting No. 8 Salem. Second-seeded Bedford hosts No. 7 Alvirne of Hudson at 7 p.m., and No. 6 Winnacunnet of Hampton hosts No. 13 Manchester Memorial. All games are at 7 p.m. Fifth-seeded Nashua North plays at No. 4 Londonderry at 5 p.m.
In boys' basketball, the Division III quarterfinals are set for tonight at 7. Top-ranked Berlin hosts No. 8 Mascoma of Canaan; No. 4 Gilford hosts No. 5 Campbell of Litchfield; No. 2 Conant hosts No. 7 Somersworth, and No. 3 Newport hosts No. 6 Hopkinton.
Eight quarterfinal boys' hockey games will also be played today. In Division I, Manchester Memorial hosts No. 8 Bishop Guertin of Nashua at 4:30 p.m.; No. 4 St. Thomas of Dover hosts No. 5 Trinity of Manchester at 2 p.m.; No. 2 Central hosts No. 7 Pinkerton of Derry at 6:30 p.m., and No. 3 Londonderry hosts No. 6 Salem at 8 p.m.
In Division II hockey, No. 1 Merrimack hosts No. 8 Merrimack at 4 p.m.; No. 4 Bow hosts No. 5 Dover at 6 p.m.; No. 2 Spaulding of Rochester hosts No. 7 Oyster River of Durham at 7 p.m. Third-ranked Bedford hosts No. 6 Kingswood of Wolfeboro at 11:30 a.m.
