NH College Roundup: Myrick stars as UNH men topple Maine


Senior Ferg Myrick made his final home game a memorable one by scoring a career-high 27 points to help the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to a 79-74 win over Maine Sunday afternoon in Durham.

UNH finished the regular season at 9-19 overall and 5-11 in America East play. Maine is 11-18 and 6-10.

The Wildcats earned the No. 7 seed for next weekend's America East Championship and will play on Saturday at noon against No. 2 Vermont at the University of Albany's SEFCU Arena.

New Hampshire senior Chandler Rhoads chipped in 13 points as did Patrick Konan. Justin Edwards had a game-high 29 points for Maine.

Maine led 72-69 with just over two minutes remaining. Rhoads hit a deep three and after the teams swapped baskets, Myrick hit two free throws to put UNH up for good, 76-74, with 32 seconds remining.

Baseball

SNHU 2, University of the Sciences 0: Junior right-hander Junior Mendez team struck out 15 and tossed a no-hitter as the No. 14 Penmen won in Lantana, Fla., Sunday. SNHU is 6-0. Mendez faced the minimum 27 batters and has struck out 26 without issuing a walk through two games. Andrew Pezzuto tripled and scored for SNHU. the Penmen scored their other run when Riley Palmer of Goffstown worked a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a wild pitch.

Dartmouth 5, Utah 2: Thomas Roulis went 3-for-5 including an RBI triple to help the Big Green win at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. Dartmouth went 3-0 to start the season in the dome.

RPI 4, Keene St. 2 (11 innings): Brett Dootson and Dover's Ian Seawards had RBI singles for Keene but a pair of runs in the top of the 11th gave the Engineers the victory. Keene is 1-3.

Women's lacrosse

Pfeiffer 19, SNHU 3: SNHU, 0-1, got a pair of goals from Kayleigh Dube and another from Ellie Morin.

Men's hockey

UMass-Dartmouth 2, Plymouth State 1 (Saturday): Senior goaltender Ryan Williams made 37 saves to lead No. 2 UMD past defending champion and top-seeded Plymouth State in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) championship game in Plymouth. ?UMD (12-7-8) received the MASCAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III championship tournament. PSU ended the season with a record of 19-7-1.

Track and field

Univ. of New Hampshire (Saturday): Freshman Lauren Perrodin set a school record in the 60 meters as select members of the UNH women's indoor track & field team took part in the second day of the ECAC Championships in Boston. Perrodin advanced to the semifinals of the 60-meter dash but just missed qualifying for the finals with a record-breaking time of 7.65.
