Ocean State Job Lot to open in Derry next week
The store will be the Rhode Island-based retailer's 108th, according to Town Administrator John Anderson. It will use about half of the existing Walmart building and will be looking for a tenant for the other half of the building, Anderson said.
Walmart moved to bigger digs on Ashleigh Drive with a Super Walmart location that opened last fall. Walmart was quickly able to find someone to buy its existing building once it made the move.
Ocean State Job Lot is holding a grand opening ceremony open for members of the community on March 14, with the doors opening at 8 a.m. and a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m.
There will also be specials, samples, food and giveaways throughout the day, according to Anderson.
Ocean State Job Lot is a discount close-out retailer based in Kingstown, R.I., with over 100 stores in New England and northern New York. There are currently nine New Hampshire stores, according to the company website.
During Tuesday night's Town Council meeting, Anderson said the Ocean State Job Lot is just one of a number of new businesses that have either opened in town or are in the process of gaining approval before town boards.
Among the new businesses are a Cabinet Warehouse that has already opened at the site of the former Dollar Bill's on Rockingham Road and a Triangle Credit Union that is in the works for 3 Windham Road.
Anderson said the plans for a new two-story medical building at 14 Tsienneto Road should be before the Planning Board in the spring. The site plan for the project has already gained the approval of the Conservation Commission.
The developers at Pinkerton Place on Manchester Road are also building a new 9,000-square-foot retail space and pursuing tenants for that property, according to Anderson.
The building would be the fourth at Pinkerton Place, joining the Woof Meow pet store, Panera restaurant and a Goodwill store.
