College Lacrosse: Keene State women's lax gets first win

Senior Lauren Brown scored five goals and dished out two assists, leading the Keene State College women's lacrosse team to its first win of the season, a 12-10 come-from-behind victory over host Castleton (Vt.) State Wednesday.

Trailing 5-2, the Owls (1-1) out-scored the Spartans 4-1 in the final 10 minutes of the first half to knot the game at 6-6 by halftime. With the score tied 8-8, sophomore Christa Demovellan gave Keene State the lead for good with her second goal of the game. Brown and junior Julie Trombetta followed with goals to push Keene State's lead up to 11-8.



Women's lacrosse



Grand Valley State 15, SNHU 10: In Manchester, the Penmen were led by Ellie Morin who scored four goals. She became the 12th player in program history with 100 career points. Lindsay Bucknam of Bow finished with three goals and Phoebe Clark of Concord scored twice.

UConn 11, UNH 9: In Durham, Jenny Simpson recorded her 100th career point as part of a personal-best six-goal performance in the loss. Simpson has 82 goals and 19 assists for 101 points in 52 career games

Dartmouth 12, Boston University 7: In Boston, Lindsey Allard led the way for Dartmouth with three goals and four points, matching her career high for tallies and establishing a new single-game best for scoring.

Springfield College 7, Plymouth State 6: In Springfield, Mass., Meghan McNabb tallied two goals and an assist for the Panthers. Caitlin Swanson of Holderness scored twice while Shannon Connerty of Nashua registered three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Lorin Field of Hollis made nine saves.



Baseball



Lynn University 10, SNHU 7: In Boca Raton, Fla., Joe McCarthy of Nashua suffered the mound loss in relief as the Penmen lost their first game in eight outings this season. Penmen starter Tyler Gauthier worked six innings and scattered seven hits. He allowed four runs, all earned. He struck out four and walked six.



Honors



SNHU: Junior righthander Junior Mendez was honored Wednesday as the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association Division II national pitcher of the week. Mendez recorded a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over the University of the Sciences on Sunday. He struck out 15 batters without issuing a walk and faced the minimum 27 batters. SNHU recorded a double play in the seventh after the leadoff batter reached on an error. Mendez retired the first 18 batters.



Skiing



UNH: Coley Oliver tied for second place and Taylor Vest-Burton took sixth place Wednesday in the men's giant slalom as the Wildcats sit in fourth place overall after opening day of the 2013 National Collegiate men's and women's skiing championships, hosted by Middlebury (Vt.) College.
