KEENE - More than 80 local chefs will prepare a wide range of appetizers, entrees and desserts at Monadnock Family Service's Men Who Cook benefit on Saturday.

The event will be held 6 p.m. at Keene State College's Zorn Dining Commons. This year, money raised at the event will help fund the agency's ActingOut Improv Theater program.

"This important donation will help us to continue to offer this dramatic arts program to help empower and inspire young people. The program has been highly successful in promoting positive self-esteem, healthy choices and a stronger connection to school," said Eric Snare, program director.

Thousands of Keene area young people have been touched by the program since it started more than 24 years ago. The unique theater training program helps them to cultivate resilience, social skills and healthy development, according to Monadnock Family Services.

Afterschool and in-school groups for those interested in the performing arts are offered through the program. The focus on improvisational acting allows teens to navigate issues such as relationships, school, peers and substance abuse in a safe setting.

The Men Who Cook dinner starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and $5 for children under 10, and can be purchased over the phone at 283-1558.
