MANCHESTER - A man accused of selling heroin on five occasions in June, July and August 2012, and of possessing heroin with intent to sell Thursday complained to a Circuit Court, Manchester District Division judge Thursday about the proposed bail.
Police prosecutor Lt. Peter Favreau requested $100,000 cash/surety bail for German Grullon, 22, of 235 Agnes St., saying Grullon has a limited record as an adult, with only a disorderly conduct conviction in Salem, but is accused of selling heroin to a police confidential informant on five occasions over a three-month period last year and of having heroin in his possession when arrested.
Grullon was arrested on warrants as a result of an investigation by the Manchester Police Special Investigations Unit. A Manchester SWAT team executed a search warrant at the Agnes Street address at about 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Asked by Judge Thomas Barry if he had anything to say about bail, Grullon responded: "I think that's not a reasonable amount for me and my family to come up with."
Barry set bail at $100,000 and granted a prosecution request about bail funds, telling Grullon: "If you come up with any bail money, we're going to have a hearing on the source of the funds."
Grullon could enter no plea to the felony charges, so a probable cause hearing was set for March 21.
Restaurants targeted
Ronald Huard, 47, who lists the homeless shelter as his address, was arraigned Thursday in Circuit Court, Manchester District Division on two felony burglary charges and a misdemeanor of theft by unauthorized taking.
He is accused of burglarizing the Midtown Cafe, 814 Elm St., Jan. 26 and the 11 Eleven Bistro, 36 Lowell St., Feb. 3. He's also accused of taking a case of liquor from the Wild Rover Pub, 21 Kosciuszko St., Jan. 15.
Asked if he had any comment on the $50,000 cash/surety bail proposed by the prosecution, Huard said: "I think it's a little stiff."
But after hearing from police prosecutor Carissa Pelletier that Huard has seven prior burglary convictions, Barry said the amount was justified.
Told a probable cause hearing on the felonies was set for March 21, Huard asked Judge Thomas Barry: "Can I waive that? Barry told him to talk to his attorney. Trial on the misdemeanor was set for April 10.
Failure to appear waived
Circuit Court, Manchester District Division Judge Thomas Barry Thursday waived a $50 failure to appear fee for Kevin Hilton, 22, of 174 Beech Hill Ave.
Hilton was scheduled to appear in court Nov. 7, 2012, on a violation of operating without a license, but he told Barry: "I was incarcerated on that day." Asked why, Hilton said it was for failure to pay restitution on an arson conviction.
A new trial date was set for May 7.
Stealing Xbox items
Police responding to the report of a burglary in progress on Central Street Wednesday morning arrested two people.
A person who lived across the street told officers he had seen two men enter and leave the building several times.
After a perimeter was established around the house, officers contacted Brian Shuman, 21, of Edwin Almonte, 18, at the rear door.
Police said further investigation determined Shuman and Almonte, who both live at 537 Central St., had entered the victim's building and removed Xbox games and controllers Wednesday and the Xbox console Tuesday.
Police recovered the stolen items and both Shuman and Almonte were charged with burglary.
Says he's homeless
Bo Strandnes, 45, who said he is homeless, pleaded innocent to two sets of charges Thursday in Circuit Court, Manchester District Division.
Strandnes pleaded innocent to Jan. 22 city charges of failure to use required turn signal and operating after suspension on Manchester Street, and Jan. 24 state liquor commission enforcement charges of Driving Under the Influence second or third offense, subsequent offense operating after revocation or suspension, and transporting open alcoholic beverages in the Vine Street Garage. Strandnes was convicted of DWI Jan. 28, 2010 in Derry.
Bail was continued at $1,000 personal recognizance. Trial was set for May 20.
