ROCHESTER - A 12-year-old boy was sent to the hospital after a pickup truck struck his go-cart on South Main Street this evening.

According to police, emergency personnel responded at 5:10 p.m. after a southbound Chevrolet 2500 driven by Richard Stuart, 50, of New Durham, struck a battery-operated go-cart that was attempting to make a left turn onto Congress Street.

Investigators determined the boy and the go-cart, which he had been driving on the sidewalk, was dragged about 15 feet after the pick-up, which was making a right-hand turn onto Congress Street, struck it, according to police.

Paramedics transported the juvenile, whose identity was not released, to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

"With the warmer weather upon us the Rochester Police Department would like to remind citizens that bicycles, skateboards and motorized transportation are not to be operating on the sidewalk per city ordinance," according to police.
