PLAISTOW - A Massachusetts man who is a convicted sex offender was arrested Monday night on charges he sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl while she was in a toy aisle at the Plaistow Walmart last weekend.
Ronald R. Beausoleil, 33, of 972 Amesbury Road, Haverhill, Mass., faces charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault, theft (shoplifting), and operating after suspension. Beausoleil was arrested after Rockingham County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Caracciolo spotted his pickup truck in the parking lot of the Walmart and Home Depot on Route 125 just after 8:30 p.m. Monday, according to police.
Police were on the lookout for a man and vehicle believed to be connected to Sunday night's alleged assault on the girl. Law enforcement agencies and the media were given surveillance camera photographs Monday in an effort to identify the suspect who allegedly grabbed the girl's genital area in the toy department when her parent lost sight of her for a brief moment, police said.
Police said Caracciolo was in the area Monday night and had received the suspect's information from the Plaistow Detective Unit.
As Caracciolo was patrolling the parking lot, he came upon a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle, police said. Beausoleil was identified as the truck's operator and through an investigation at the scene, he was identified as the suspect wanted in connection with the alleged assault.
Beausoleil is listed on the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry as a Level 3 offender, with convictions in 1999 for indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years of age and in 2007 for attempted open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior. According to the state website, a Level 3 offender is the highest level with the risk of reoffense high and the degree of dangerousness posed to the public such that a substantial public safety interest is served by active dissemination.
Beausoleil was arrested and taken to the Plaistow Police Department. He was held at the Rockingham County jail on $25,000 cash and was scheduled to be arraigned in the 10th Circuit Court, Plaistow District Division, Tuesday morning.
