CLAREMONT -- By less than 100 votes, residents passed the bond for the long-discussed renovation of Stevens High School, addressing many of its code deficiencies including new wiring, fire safety and ADA compliance for handicap accessibility for all doors, bathrooms and building levels.
The bond needed three-fifths of the vote to pass and came in at 1,399 to 780.
The renovation would also include the removal of hazardous waste including lead paint, asbestos on pipes and asbestos tile flooring.
Over 33 percent, or 2,201 of the city's 6,578 registered voters turned out for the election.
Voters also approved, 1,548 to 611, a lease to purchase wood pellet boiler systems for all district schools.
Richard Seaman, with 1,090, and John Napsey with 1,387, won three-year seats on the school board against write-in candidate Brent Fertanel, who had 387 votes.
The $32 million budget also passed 1,324 to 835.
