LONDONDERRY -- It was slow goings at the Londonderry polls Tuesday afternoon, with just over 1,000 of the town's 16,000 or so voters having cast their ballots as of 3 p.m., Moderator Cindi Rice Conley said.
Still, supporters for a number of articles, including Article 14, a petitioned article for funding of a paved, one-mile segment of the Londonderry Rail Trail, found encouragement in feedback from passing neighbors.
Bob Spiegelman of the Londonderry Trailways said he was feeling pretty positive about the day's proceedings so far.
"This will be both a transportation corridor and a recreation trail that's open to all citizens," Spiegelman said. "So there are countless benefits - this would reduce gas usage, not to mention lower people's blood pressure. This is one way for Londonderry residents to think globally and act locally."?
If passed, the $227,000 petitioned warrant item would have a seven-cent per $1,000 impact on residential property taxes.
