SNHU Penmen complete weekend baseball sweep

Twelfth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University completed a four-game weekend baseball sweep of host Queens (N.Y.) College with 5-1 and 3-1 wins Sunday. The Penmen (14-3) have won six straight games.

Anthony Aceto tripled home a run in the opener and scored on a single by Brendan O'Brien. Andrew Pezzuto saw his 14-game hit streak end while starting pitcher Derrick Sylvester of Franklin earned the win, allowing five hits and one run with four strikeouts. Pezzuto had a two-run single in the nightcap win. Jon Massad went the distance on the mound and scattered six hits with four whiffs in the second game. O'Brien's single extended his hit streak to 11 games.

SNHU is scheduled to host St. Anselm at 3 p.m. at Penmen Field on Thursday in an NE-10 game.

Rivier 3-0, Mass. Maritime 2-1: In Buzzards Bay, Mass., Rivier's offense was held to three hits in a 1-0 loss. Rivier scored all three of its runs in the third inning of the opener. Mike Scanlon's RBI single was the only run Rivier would need. Aramis Velez followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 edge, and an RBI triple by senior Kyle Bowser of Newington completed the frame. Sophomore Steven Carlberg of Dover recorded the final five outs to record the save for the Raiders.

Women's lacrosse

St. Thomas Aquinas 14, Franklin Pierce 7: In Sparkill, N.Y., senior attacker Courtney Weber led the Ravens with two goals and an assist.

Duke 13, Dartmouth 5: In Durham, N.C., No. 13 Dartmouth lost to No. 6 ranked Duke. The loss was the second straight for the Big Green (4-2) who also lost to No. 2 ranked Florida.

Men's lacrosse

Castleton State 7, Plymouth State 6: In Castleton, Vt., senior Nohea King notched his third goal of the game, breaking a 6-6 tie in the final minutes. Stephen Patch of Newbury led the Panthers' offense, scoring twice and dishing out two assists. Junior Brett Miller of Windham added one goal and one assist. PSU is 2-1.

Women's basketball

Bentley College: Christiana Bakolas of Manchester and the top-seeded Falcons will host Dowling College today at 7 p.m. in the NCAA Division II Championship, with a trip to the Elite Eight in San Antonio, Texas, awaiting the winner.

In Saturday night's semifinals, Bentley beat Holy Family, 85-56, with Bakolas scoring six points and Souhegan of Amherst product Jane White netting nine.
