LITCHFIELD - An election recount will be conducted today to verify the results of Warrant Article 4 on last week's town ballot.
The warrant article, which requested voters approve a town operating budget of $5,045,145, was rejected by a vote of 601-597. Because the budget failed, a default budget of $4,974,847 was implemented.

However, at least 10 registered voters requested a recount on the warrant article, according to a posting on the town's Facebook page. The town clerk's office will be closed today to allow for the election recount.

"We are looking for registered voters interested in volunteering in the recount," the post said, asking individuals to contact Town Clerk Terri Briand at 424-4045, ext. 244., to volunteer.
