NH College Roundup: UNH Wildcats drop to 10th in USCHO.com hockey poll

A pair of losses to Providence College in the Hockey East quarterfinals dropped the University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey team in at least one national poll.

The Wildcats (19-11-7) dropped from seventh to 10th in the USCHO.com poll, while they are also expected to slip in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's Poll.

The Friars won the best-of-three series, 2-1, to advance to Friday's Hockey East semifinals at TD Garden.

Baseball

Dartmouth 6, North Dakota State 0: At Auburndale, Fla., Michael Johnson struck out 12 batters over seven innings at the RussMatt Invitational as Dartmouth (7-0) remained the only unbeaten team, nationally, in Division I. Johnson walked one and allowed five hits before Duncan Robinson pitched the final two innings to preserve the shutout.

Nova Southeastern 7, FPU 4: At Fort Lauderdale, Fla., junior first baseman Zach Mathieu of Derry smacked his second home run in as many games, but it was not enough to stop the Ravens from slipping to 9-8.

Golf

SNHU takes fifth: At Selbyville, Del., sophomores Austin Fox of Hooksett and Ernie Lupi led the Penmen, tying for 11th with two-day totals of 157 at the Bayside Resort College Invitational. SNHU was fifth in a field of 13, 38 strokes behind the winning score of 605 posted by Wilmington (Del.) University.

Women's lacrosse

SNHU 15, Merrimack 12: At Manchester, the Penmen (3-3, 2-0) reeled off their third straight win behind six goals and three assists by Ellie Morin. Phoebe Clark of Concord and Lindsay Bucknam of Bow added four and two goals, respectively.

Honors

PSU's Runnals named LEC player of week: Junior Jeff Runnals of Wolfeboro (Kingswood) was named the LEC player of the week after going 4-for-5 with five RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Lasell. He is also 1-0 with a 3.38 earned run average in two appearances on the mound.

Three Owls garner accolades: A pair of freshmen from Greenland were among three student-athletes from Keene State College to earn LEC honors. Mariah Crisp was named pitcher of the week in softball after going 3-2 with a 1.12 earned run average, while infielder Billy Hartmann was named rookie of the week in baseball after going 8-for-19 in five games. Also, freshman Stephanie Long of Salem was named rookie of the week in softball after going 8-for-18 with seven RBIs.

St, Michael's Nelson earns spot on honor roll: Junior outfielder Nick Nelson of Spofford was named to the Northeast-10 honor roll after hitting .478 in six games for the St. Michael's baseball team.

St. Anselm pair named All-Academic: Cross country runner Allyn Doyle of Merrimack and football player Brendan Thomas represented St. Anselm on the NE-10 All-Academic team for the fall season. Both are seniors. Also, freshman Canada Stewart of Derry was one of five Hawks named to the national field hockey coaches association's academic squad.
