Nashua woman charged with assaulting child

NASHUA - A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with assault after police say she hit a girl in the face, causing the child's nose to bleed.

Police say Malissa Wheeler, 24-1 Scripture St., struck the child in the face with her open hand, then picked her up by her hair and threw her face first into a corner wall. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Saturday at a residence on Temple Street.

The child, according to police, is under the age of 13. Authorities did not say whether the girl was related to Wheeler.

Wheeler has been charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and was being held on $5,000 cash or surety bail. She was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District Division.
