Manchester's Patrick Garrity resigns from House

CONCORD — Five-term Rep. Patrick Garrity, D-Manchester, resigned from the House today, saying he is moving out of his district, Manchester’s Ward 7.

The city will have to request a special election to fill the seat.

In January, Garrity pleaded guilty to an amended simple assault charge and was placed on probation for a year. He was charged with three misdemeanors of simple assault after an incident at the Fish & Game Club, 50 Massabesic St. on July 22.

Garrity was accused of pushing his ex-wife, Wendy Garrity, in the chest and of punching Joseph Garvey on the left side of the face and of pushing him off a bar stool.

Garrity had just been fired from his job as a bartender at the club, where Wendy Garrity was treasurer and Garvey was president.
