Two drivers airlifted after serious crash in Epping

EPPING - Two female drivers were seriously injured in a crash at the intersection of Route 125 and Old Nottingham Road late Thursday morning.

Fire Chief Don DeAngelis said the two women were trapped and had to be extricated from the cars before being airlifted to the hospital by medical helicopters. One was airlifted from a landing zone at Epping High School while the second driver was transported to Exeter Hospital and later flown to a Boston hospital.

Epping firefighter/paramedic Chuck Moorenovich said one of the drivers suffered a head injury, while the other suffered arm, chest and leg injuries.

Police Chief Michael Wallace said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The accident was reported at 10:12 a.m. and involved a Toyota Corolla and a Mazda6. Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.

DeAngelis said the accident happened at the same time that firefighters from Concord, Exeter and Franklin were at the Epping fire station for a training class and responded to the call as well.

"We had a lot of paramedics in the class," he said.

The accident scene was cleared by 11:30 a.m.
