One killed in Milan accident

MILAN — One person was killed Wednesday when a pickup truck hit a tractor trailer then caught on fire, state police said.

Police said the pickup was heading east on Route 110 in the town of Milan about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when it hit a tractor trailer head on. The pickup caught on fire and, when it was extinguished about 30 to 45 minutes after the accident, a body was found in the pickup, police said.

The driver of the tractor trailer, as well as another person who got into a separate accident while trying to avoid the first crash, were each treated for their injuries at the scene.

Police said Wednesday night the names of all three are being withheld until families of those involved can be notified.

Route 110 remained closed at 11 p.m. Wendesday because of the accident. Police said they expected to reopen the road about midnight Wednesday.
