NH College Roundup: O'Brien, Minucci set marks as SNHU nine tops St. Anselm


Brendan O'Brien and Jon Minucci couldn't have picked a better opponent to rewrite the record books at Southern New Hampshire University than rival St. Anselm College. O'Brien became the all-time stolen base leader and Minucci tied the school record with his 19th career homer as No. 13 ranked Southern New Hampshire University banged out 17 hits and posted a 14-10 Northeast-10 baseball victory over the Hawks at Penmen Field Wednesday. The Penmen (19-6, 3-2 in NE-10) won their third straight game. />O'Brien stole his 54th career base, one better than Cliff Waite, who played from 1984-87. Minucci's solo blast in the fifth inning tied him with Jeff Weakes (1995-98) for the most in program history.

SNHU was led by Matt Boulter's four RBIs and Andrew Pezzuto's four hits. O'Brien fell a homer short of the cycle.

Dartmouth 9, Quinnipiac 4: In Hamden, Conn., Dartmouth (15-3) forged ahead on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Toimil in the sixth inning. Dartmouth is off to its best start in over 140 seasons of varsity baseball. Ennis Coble had a two-run homer.

Daniel Webster 9, Plymouth State 7: In Nashua, a bases load walk drawn by Darrik Marstaller of Spofford followed by a sacrifice fly from Kyle Brigham of Hudson pushed across the go-ahead runs in the home seventh.



Softball



Pine Manor 7-6, Daniel Webster 3-5: In Chestnut Hill, Mass., Daniel Webster (5-11) was led by Chelsey Crawford who drove home Mollie Bartles with a single.

St. Anselm 7, Franklin Pierce 4: In Manchester, Julie LeClair had a two-run homer for the Hawks who improved to 6-11.



Women's lacrosse



Stonehill 16, SNHU 8: In Manchester, Emily King paced the Penmen with three goals followed by Lindsay Bucknam of Bow with two goals.

Vermont 12, UNH 4: In Durham, Jenny Simpson and Laura McHoul recorded three points apiece in the loss. UNH (3-7) played its first home game at Cowell Stadium since 1999 and Simpson netted three goals to extend her goal-scoring streak to 10 games.

St. Anselm 14, Franklin Pierce 6: In Rindge, sophomore attacker Marissa Daly piled up eight points on six goals and two assists for the Hawks (7-1). Madeline Shopshire and Lauren Beville scored twice each in the loss for 2-4 Franklin Pierce.



Men's lacrosse



SNHU 11, St. Anselm 7: In Manchester, Rob Murray and Corey Allen led the winners with three goals apiece. SNHU is 3-6 and the Hawks fall to 2-5.

St. Joseph's 14, Rivier 8: In Nashua, Rivier was led by Rob Auer of Salem with four goals.

Merrimack 17, Franklin Pierce 4: In Rindge, The Ravens (3-40 had their two-game winning streak snapped Wednesday. Erik Kelly had two goals and Cody Kelley of Manchester scored his first career goal.



UNH hockey



Senior defenseman Brett Kostolansky signed a contract with the Rapid City (South Dakota) Rush of the Central Hockey League. Kostolansky played in 143 career games, including all 39 games this season.

He recorded 46 points on seven goals and 39 assists over his four years, including ten points during his senior season.
