Farm Rich recalls more food as E. coli spreads

Farm Rich Products Corp. is expanding its recall of various frozen mini meals and snacks in New Hampshire and across the country because of possible contamination by a strain of E. coli, state health officials announced Friday.

A total 24 people in 15 states have been infected with the outbreak of E. coli 0121. None were in New Hampshire.

Farm Rich Products of Buffalo, N.Y. expanded its recall to more than 10.5 million pounds of its products that it distributes to retail stores and restaurants nationwide, including New Hampshire.

A complete list of recalled products may be found on its website: www.farmrich.com. Consumers who have these foods in their homes should immediately throw them away, state public health officials said.

"It is important that all consumers check their freezers for this product," state Public Health Director Dr. Jose Montero said in a statement.

"Since many of these items are frozen, they could still be in many New Hampshire homes, and with the recall expansion, people should check again to be sure," he added.

E. coli 0121 infection causes hydration, bloody diarrhea, abdominal crams. While most people recover in a week, some develop hemolytic uremic syndrome.
