Ossipee man charged with assaulting nine-month-old baby
OSSIPEE - A 19-year-old Ossipee man was charged with assaulting his girlfriend's nine-month-old daughter during a domestic dispute Friday.
Kurt Whiting of Heron Place was charged with felony second-degree assault after police say he assaulted the baby by squeezing her head during an argument with her mother. Whiting was charged with simple assault and criminal threatening after police say he also kicked the baby's mother several times.
Ossipee Police Detective Sgt. Robert King said police first learned of the incident Friday when they were called to Heron Place at 10:40 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance. King said the victim said that during the course of a dispute, Whiting opened the car door beside where the baby was seated in the back and squeezed her head.
The mother brought the child to the Huggins Hospital emergency room where she was checked out and then released.
Whiting was arraigned in 3rd Circuit Court, Ossipee District Division, Monday morning and held at Carroll County House of Corrections on $2,500 cash and $2,500 corporate surety bail. A probable cause hearing is set for April 17.
