NH College Roundup: St. Anselm baseball sweeps doubleheader
Homers from Mike Hayden and Robert Kelly supported winning pitchers Tom Hudon of Merrimack and Paul Trabucco of Salem as St. Anselm College swept Assumption College 12-4 and 7-5 in college baseball Sunday at Sullivan Park in Manchester. The Hawks (12-16-1) are 7-6 in the NE-10.
Southern Connecticut 7-12, SNHU 4-4: The Penmen are 20-10 and 6-7 in the NE-10. Tyler Poisson of Rochester had a two-run double for SNHU. Tyler Fortanascio homered for the Penmen.
Dartmouth 1-0; Cornell 0-3: In Hanover, in the first televised game at Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park, Trent Goodrich drew a walk with the bases loaded in the home ninth for the win. Dartmouth's Michael Johnson surrendered just two singles and two walks over eight innings in the opener. Dartmouth is 17-5, 4-4 in the Ivy.
Franklin Pierce 18-15, New Haven 9-6: In Rindge, FPC (22-9, 12-0 NE-10) has won the first 12 games of a 13-game homestand, tying a program record they can break Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. against Southern New Hampshire University. In the opener, Pinkerton of Derry grad Zach Mathieu had a team-leading fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot. FPU's Dan Kemp also homered in the opener, also a two-run blast.
