One day Connor Green will be able to tell his children he played on both high school and college championship teams.

The former Bishop Guertin of Nashua standout scored 16 points off the bench to help lead Amherst College to an 87-70 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for the 2013 NCAA Division III men's basketball championship at Philips Arena in Atlanta Sunday.

Green, now a 6-foot-4 freshman guard with the Lord Jeffs, led Bishop Guertin to the 2011 Division I boys' basketball championship. That year, he was the 2010-11 Union Leader All-State Player of the Year. Green attended Phillips Exeter Academy last year.

Green, of Bedford, played 16 minutes on Sunday, making 5-of-9 shots along with four free throws in six attempts. He was 2-of-5 from three-point land, making his first one with 11:52 left in the first half to give the Lord Jeffs a 25-12 lead. He made a layup a minute later and canned a jumper with 8:52 remaining before the half for a 31-91 lead.

He started the second half with his second three-pointer of the game, with 10:34 remaining, to push Amherst out to a 58-45 lead. Green helped Amherst maintain its 14-point lead (65-51) with a conventional three-point play with 7:29 remaining.

The lead went to 15 points, 73-58, when Green sank a free throw with 4:37 to play. He added two more free throws with 59 seconds remaining and finished the game with three rebounds.

Amherst ended its season at 30-2 and finished its championship season with a 24-game winning streak.
