Dubisz quits Hooksett School Board for 'personal reasons'

HOOKSETT - Hooksett School Board member Michael Dubisz resigned Monday.

In a letter to addressed the board's chair, Trisha Korkosz, Dubisz indicated that his decision was "final" and related to "personal reasons."

"I do not make this decision lightly," he wrote in the letter to Korkosz. "It pains me to realize that I will not be fulfilling the commitments that I made to the citizens of Hooksett. I apologize to the students, citizens, board members and the Hooksett School District staff. I wish the best for all Hooksett students and citizens."

Dubisz could not be reached for comment.

"I'm very saddened to see him go," said Korkosz. "I learned a great deal from him about education during our tenure together on the Hooksett School Board. I wish him all the best of luck."

Vice Chair David Pearl thanked Dubisz for his service and wished him well.

Dubisz's letter stated that he wished for his resignation to take effect by midnight, April 8.

Dubisz's term was due to expire in 2015.

The board will appoint a replacement.

The issue will be on the agenda for the board's April 16 meeting.

In the meantime, letters of interest for the seat will be solicited.

Jen Leger, who was a candidate for the board seat won by John Lyscars, has notified the board of her interest.

Town Council Chair Jim Sullivan has also expressed interest in the seat.

The Hooksett School Board has become a notably high-profile body in town due to the continuing controversy over overcrowding in Manchester, where most Hooksett students attend high school.

The board has voted to declare the city district to be in be in breach of its contract with the town, mainly due to chronic classroom overcrowding issues.
