Hooksett man facing two negligent homicide charges in boating death

BRENTWOOD - A Hooksett man is facing negligent homicide charges months after a passenger fell off his boat at Northwood Lake and died.

Eric Cable, 33, was indicted on two counts of negligent homicide for the July 14 incident that resulted in the death of Brendan Yerry, 28, of Hudson.

The new charges were made public this week in superior court. A Rockingham County grand jury handed up three charges against Cable earlier this month.

Cable faces up to 7½ to 15 years in state prison on one of the new charges for allegedly operating the boat while under the influence of alcohol, according to an indictment.

Prosecutors say while Cable was driving the boat, he allowed Yerry to ride on the gunwales or straddle the bow.

Yerry fell overboard and was struck by the boat when Cable turned into the wake of another boat, according to indictments.

Yerry was not wearing a life jacket when he went into the water around 7:40 p.m., according to the New Hampshire Marine Patrol.

Divers from the N.H. Fish and Game Department spent more than 12 hours searching for Yerry's body. It was found the morning after in about 15 feet of water, 550 feet from the northeast shoreline, according to investigators.

Northwood Lake sits between Rockingham and Merrimack Counties, spanning roughly 650 acres. Prosecutors say Cable was operating the boat in Northwood.

At the time of the incident, investigators could not say how fast Cable was driving the 18-foot motor boat.

Cable was initially charged with operating under the influence. That charge was bound over to superior court. He also faces two violation-level boating offenses. He remains free on bail.

Cable will be arraigned later this month on the new charges in Rockingham County Superior Court.
