No injuries in Newport house fire

NEWPORT - The cause of a fire that destroyed a Middle Street home Wednesday night is under investigation.

Firefighters responded to several 911 calls reporting the fire at 9:22 p.m., the department said in a press release. When firefighters arrived the home was fully involved in flames.

The homeowner, Patrick Patten, was out of town, but two of his dogs were found safe and released to family members.

Claremont, Sunapee, New London, Croydon and Goshen fire departments assisted Newport firefighters. The blaze was under control by 10:37 p.m.

Police and the state Fire Marshal's office are investigating the cause of the fire.
