NHIAA Roundup: Lunn hurls Guertin to victory
Jeff Lunn threw a complete game seven-hitter as unbeaten Bishop Guertin of Nashua defeated Londonderry 6-5 in a Division I baseball contest in Londonderry on Wednesday.
Lunn allowed three walks and fanned two for 4-0 Bishop Guertin. Lunn is now 2-0 on the mound this season. Both teams committed four errors.
Leading the Cardinals on offense were Eric Damphousse with two hits and Matt Morais with two RBIs. The Lancers (2-3) were led by Jake Welch with two stolen bases and and Mike Ryan with a double.
John Stark 6, Lebanon 0: At Weare, Paul Montray pitched a complete game and held Lebanon to four hits to help John Stark even its Division II record at 1-1. John Stark received two hits and two RBIs from shortstop Nick Manna.
Pembroke 6, Goffstown 4: At Pembroke, Mike Martinez collected two hits, one of which was a home run, and drove in two runs to help Pembroke raise its Division II record to 4-0. Shane St. Onge pitched the first six innings to earn the win.
Winnacunnet 3, Salem 2: At Hampton, Winnacunnet scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to improve its Division I record to 1-2. Catcher Cam Hauze collected three of Winnacunnet's 10 hits. Joe Lemenager had two hits for Salem, which fell to 1-3.
Alvirne 10, Timberlane 0: At Plaiston, Tyler Brown and Dakota Williams each hit two-run home runs to help Alvirne improve to 2-2 in Division I in a game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule. Timberlane, which was held to two hits, dropped to 1-4.
Merrimack 6, Dover 2: At Merrimack, Mickey Gasper collected three hits and Cam Knowles had two as Merrimack improved to 3-1 in Division I. The loss dropped Dover to 1-3.
Pittsfield 15, Epping 7: At Pittsfield, the Panthers scored the game's first eight runs en route to this Division IV victory. Jacob West provided Epping's highlight by hitting a grand slam.
Trinity 7, Nashua South 4: In Nashua, in relief in the seventh inning Carmen Giampetruzzi pitched out of a no-out, first-and-third situation to preserve the win. Brian Boldwin and Ryan Slatky each had two hits and two RBIs for the 4-1 Pioneers. Joe Lamontagne gained the mound win in relief, allowing two hits and one run in four innings.
Concord 7, Manchester Memorial 0: In Concord, winning pitcher Katie Kennard had three of her team's eight hits. Memorial catcher Kassandra Baron had two hits. Concord is 3-0, Memorial falls to 0-3.
Exeter 11, Nashua South 6: In Exeter, winning pitcher Chandra Boudreaux fanned six and walked no one. South was led by Kylie Perkins who smacked a grand slam. Exeter was led by McKenzie McGrath who tripled and drove in two runs. Amanda Anderson and Megan O'Brien each drove in two runs. South falls to 1-3 and Exeter is 2-1.
Hopkinton 15, Kearsarge 2: At North Sutton, Becca Shatney allowed six hits and struck out eight to pick up the pitching win and helped her own cause with two hits, including a double, and two runs batted in. The Hawks jumped on top early with four runs inning and eight in the third. Sloane White had three hits, two of them doubles, scored three runs and had three RBI. Hopkinton improved to 2-1 and Kearsarge is 0-3.
Londonderry 14, Bishop Guertin 2: At Nashua, Leah Hunt pitched a complete game and collected four hits and three RBIs as Londonderry improved to 2-1 in Division I. Londonderry's Taylor Wood had three hits. The loss dropped BG to 1-3.
Gilford 14, Somersworth 0: At Somersworth, pitcher Sydney Strout and the Golden Eagle defense allowed only one Hilltopper batter to reach base. Strout struck out 11 and walked none and her defense was errorless behind her. Somersworth's Savannah Norton broke up the perfect game with a third inning single. Alyssa Wilson and Strout each had three of Gilford's nine hits. Wilson added four RBI. Gilford is now 3-1 and Somersworth is 1-2.
Pinkerton 4, Spaulding 2: The Astros came from behind and scored all their runs in the fifth inning. Kinsey Manchester singled home the tying runs with two outs in the fifth and Lauren Phillips followed with a two-run homer for the winning runs. Sam Hennequin allowed 10 hits and struck out seven and picked up the win. Lydia Beaudoin had three singles for Spaulding. Pinkerton imnproved to 1-2 and Spaulding fell to 1-3.
Franklin 4, Winnisquam 3: At Tilton, Kelsey Bird gave up four hits and struck out 10 to lead the Golden Tornadoes. Bird also contributed a solo home run in the top of the sixth. That last run proved to be the game-winner when Winnisquam rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Sanborn 7, Windham 2: In Kingston, three Windham errors led to five unearned runs for Sanborn. Heather Tornquist and Olivia Estes each had a double for the Jaguars.
Manchester Central 7, Keene 0: In Manchester, winning pitcher Sarah Lavallee pitched a complete game four-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts. She also drove in three runs and teammate Celina Therrien had three hits and two RBIs. Alex Pellerin and Sam Desaulniers each had an RBI for 3-2 Central.
Bishop Guertin 14, Needham, Mass. 10: At Needham, Mass., Dom St. Laurent scored three goals and Connor Donahue, Tom Hurley, John Miller, Colin Swanson and Mike Carluccio added two each for the Cardinals on Tuesday. Donahue and Miller also had two assists apiece. Bishop Guertin is 3-1 and Needham lost its first game and fell to 5-1.
Londonderry 19, Concord 5: In Concord, Rob Hart scored six goals while Kyle Hussey and Nick Yennaco added three goals in the win for Londonderry (2-1). Tyler Martel had two goals for Concord, now 0-4.
