Bitter Pill for Fisher Cats in loss to Binghamton

New Hampshire Fisher Cats third baseman Ryan Schimpf gets back to step on third base to force out Binghamton Mets Darrell Cecilani to double him off in the fifth inning of their game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester Thursday. (Mark Bolton/Union Leader)

Binghamton Mets righty Tyler Pill worked six innings for the win as the Fisher Cats lost their homestand opener, 4-3, on Thursday night in Manchester. Ricardo Nanita's solo home run gave New Hampshire a two-run lead in the fourth inning, but the Mets chased Fisher Cats starter Ryan Tepera in the sixth inning and tagged reliever Chorye Spoone (0-1) with the loss.

Nanita, a member of the World Baseball Classic champion Dominican Republic, doubled and homered off Pill and went 3-for-4 on the night. Pill (1-1) allowed three earned runs on seven hits.

Mets righty Jeffrey Walters pitched the ninth inning to record his fourth save.

Binghamton improved 8-6, while New Hampshire dropped to 7-8.

Paid attendance at the ballpark was 3.313.

The teams continue their four-game series Friday night at 6:35 p.m.
