Veterans Briefs: April 29 deployment ceremony is set
The Medevac company, split between the New Hampshire and Michigan Army National Guard, is led by Capt. Jason Richards and 1st Sgt. Brian McKay. About 90 soldiers, 45 from each state, will deploy to Afghanistan for nine months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
This will mark the company's third overseas assignment in the last eight years. It served in Iraqi in 2005 and 2010, transporting more than 4,000 patients. The 238th earned the Meritorious Unit Citation for each deployment.
VFW Post 4479 to hold weekend events
RAYMOND - VFW Post 4479, 39 Main St., holds Ladies Night on Fridays from 6 p.m. to midnight.
On Saturday, April 27, the band Rage N Age will perform from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Members and non-members are welcome. The post is also taking applications for the VFW Mens Auxiliary.
Freedom Cup tourney set for June 21
CANDIA - The fourth annual New Hampshire Freedom Cup golf tournament will be held Friday, June 21, at Candia Woods Golf Link.
The tournament honors Marine Cpl. Michael Ouellette who died while serving in Afghanistan in 2009 - and all of New Hampshire's military heroes from the War on Terrorism. All proceeds assist veterans, those currently serving, and their families who have experienced war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Funds from the tournament are distributed through the VA Medical Center in Manchester.
The fees are $150 per golfer and includes breakfast, dinner, 18 holes with a golf cart and a moving opening ceremony.
Sponsors are also needed.

Weare post to hold Sunday breakfasts
Weare - Philbrick-Clement Post 65 will hold its Sunday breakfast every Sunday from May 3 throught Nov. 3 from 8 to 11 a.m. The varied menu start at $3.50 w ith unlimited coffee. Funds raised support local veterans programs. The post is at 13 N. Stark Hwy.
POW/MIA vigil in Veterans Park
MANCHESTER - The monthly POW/MIA vigil will be held Wednesday, May 1, at 7 p.m. in Veterans Park. The vigil is held, rain or shine, on the first Wednesday of every month to keep pressure on the U.S. government to account for the military personnel who were prisoners of war or missing in action.
