NHIAA Roundup: Nashua South tips BG in softball
Morganne MacKay singled home the winning run in the home seventh to lead Nashua South to an 8-7 Division I softball win against Bishop Guertin on Wednesday in the Gate City.
Down by a run, South loaded the bases behind an error and singles from Sami Durkee and Kylie Perkins. A pinch-hit single from Nicole Fitzgibbons tied the game and MacKay followed with her game-winning hit.
Kristina Haghdan collected three hits and two RBIs. Kenz McCabe, Jocelyn Petry and Haley Mahan each drove in a run.
Franklin 21, Kearsarge 0: At North Sutton, the Franklin offense was led by Amber Vogt (two RBIs), Jill Roberts (two RBIs), Kelsey Bird (two RBIs), and Kat Styles (five RBIs) for 5-1 Franklin. Bird ended up throwing a no-hitter in the shortened mercy rule game as Kearsarge (0-7) committed 11 errors.
Windham 6, Sanborn 5: At Kingston, Rachel Vafides drove in Olivia Estes with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Windham improved to 4-2. Estes and Haley Psareas each had two hits for the Jaguars. It was Sanborn's first loss in five games.
Milford 9, Goffstown 8: At Milford, Goffstown (4-2) lost despite a 12-strikeout performance from junior Haeli Campbell. The Grizzlies received three hits, including a two-runhome run, from Nicole Nanoff. Campbell also hit a two-run homer and finished the game with four hits.
Concord 8, Pinkerton 0: At Concord, three Crimson Tide pitchers held the Astos to two hits. Concord scored three runs in each of the first two innings and raised its Division I record to 5-0.
Timberlane 12, Winnacunnet 7: At Plaistow, freshman Amy Freeman had three hits and Caroline Salvaneschi and Kayla Durkee each added two to help the Owls improve to 7-0 in Division I.
Manchester Central 5, Trinity 2: At Manchester's Gill Stadium, Mike Plentzas drilled a two-run single in the fifth inning for the eventual winning hit that gave Central (1-5) its first win of the season. Collin Duffley added an RBI triple and Pat Barry scored him with a sacrifice fly. Trinity (4-4) was led by RBI hits from Carmen Giampetruzzi and Ryan Boldwin. Trinity will play host to Memorial on Friday at Al Lemire Field (4 p.m.).
Bedford 10, Memorial 5: In Bedford, the Bulldogs broke out for 11 hits. Eric MacDonald collected three hits with two doubles and three runs scored while A.J. Spagnuolo each collected multiple hits. Ben Philibrick added a two-run double. Memorial's Bryant Bettez led off the game with a home run. Bedford is 4-2 and Memorial drops to 2-5.
Bishop Guertin 4, Nashua South 3: At Nashua, Jeff Lunn singled home Eric Damphouse with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Damphouse had a two-run single earlier in the game. BG scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
Hanover 9, West 7: At Manchester, West tied the game by scoring six runs in the fifth inning, but Hanover squeezed home two runs in the top of the seventh and hung on to improve its Division II record to 2-1. The loss dropped West's record to 0-5.
Dover 5, Salem 1: At Salem, Connor Rittenhouse and Nick Potter each collected three hits for the 2-5 Green Wave. Potter drove in two runs while Rittenhouse and Jordan Goss each had an RBI. Salem (3-4) received two hits from Nick Shumski and an RBI from Dan Morin.
Nashua North 6, Spaulding 1: At Nashua, North improved to 5-3 behind two hits and two RBIs from Mike Robert and three hits and two RBIs from Kyle McCarthy. Spaulding is 6-2
Sunapee 8, Epping 5: At Epping, Noah Skarin paced a 13-hit attack with three hits for Sunapee. Mike Platt, Jack Weinberger, and Nick Skarin each had two hits for 3-1 Sunapee. James Fitzgerald had two RBIs.
John Boomhower and Bradley George each had three hits for 0-5 Epping.
Kearsarge 6, Franklin 2: At North Sutton, Craig Lebrun pitched a complete game, fanning seven in the loss for 0-6 Franklin, Kearsarge improved to 3-4.
Portsmouth 3, Pembroke 2: At Pembroke, Autrey Gates pitched a complete game but took the loss as Portsmouth extended its winning streak to four games. Gates allowed seven hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Ricky Holt and Kobie Taylor each doubled for Portsmouth. Both teams are 4-1 in Division II.
Lebanon 7, John Stark 3: At Lebanon, the Raiders scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to collect their first victory of the season. James Henry scored twice and stole three bases for John Stark (1-2).
Campbell 12, Conant 1: At Litchfield, Connor Sahlin hit a grand slam and pitched all five innings to help Campbell improve to 4-2 in this contest shortened by the 10-run rule. Sahlin's home run was part of an eight-run second inning. Zack Byers hit a solo home run in the inning.
Exeter 4, Alvirne 1: At Exeter, Ty Mezquita homered and finished with two RBIs and teammates Colin Graham and Tyler Grant each drove in one run as Exeter raised its record to 4-2. Winning pitcher James Mundy, Brady Quinn and Ethan Joyce combined on a three-hitter. Joyce retired the final Alvirne batter on a strikeout with the bases loaded. Alvirne's Derek Hudson struck out nine, but took the loss.
Exeter 15, Londonderry 10: In Exeter Tuesday, Kim Arkell collected four goals and one assist for Exeter (4-2) and teammate Kelly Moran also scored four times. Julia Wasserman tallied three goals and three assists for 2-3 Londonderry and teammate Noelle Lambert scored four goals.
