ROCHESTER - The downtown is preparing to be visited by a creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic, members of a medieval re-enactment troupe and comic book fanson Saturday.

Residents are invited to help 20 local businesses celebrate National Free Comic Book Day, which is presented in partnership with Holiday Inn Express & Suites and Jetpack Comics, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kevin Eastman, who helped bring the ninja turtles to life, will join other artists, vendors and demonstrators in the Exhibition Hall at the Knight of Columbus on Columbus Avenue.

Members of the Neville Companye Medieval Reenactment Troupe will gather at Happy Pappy's Country Store on Portland Street while gamers can test their skills at the Roberge Center.

As a result of the new venues and events, organizers anticipate even more people to come to the event, according to Rich Brunelle, manager of Jetpack Comics.

Brunelle said everyone seems to enjoy the scavenger hunt to collect stamps at local businesses to get free comics. Participants can obtain maps in Jetpack Comics at 37 North Main St.

He added that publishers put out special comics, which either promote something new or highlight a character or storyline, for the event.
