NH unemployment rate dips to 5.5 %
New Hampshire’s preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April dipped to 5.5 percent, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from March. The April 2012 seasonally adjusted rate was 5.4 percent.
Seasonally adjusted estimates for April 2013 placed the number of employed residents at 703,100, an increase of 1,180 from the previous month and an increase of 900 from April 2012.
The number of unemployed residents decreased by 1,690 to 41,010. This was 1,040 more than in April 2012. From March to April 2013, the total labor force decreased by 510 to 744,110, an increase of 1,940 from April 2012.
Nationally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April 2013 was 7.5 percent, decrease of 0.1 percentage point from March, and a decrease of 0.6 percentage points from April 2012.
Goedecke Flooring named Family Business of the Year
DURHAM — Goedecke Flooring and Design Center of Bedford has been named the 2013 Family Business of the Year by the University of New Hampshire Center for Family Business.
Goedecke Flooring and Design Center will be recognized at the 3nd Annual Family Business Recognition Dinner on May, 22 at the Wentworth by the Sea, New Castle. The reception begins at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.
Lifetime achievement awards will be presented to C. Thomas Brown from New Hampshire Distributors in Concord and Chet Dunn from Dunn Industries in Manchester.
Goedecke Flooring and Design Center has been in business for 90 years, started in 1923 by George Goedecke as Goedecke Painting in Manchester.. The business is transitioning from Alan Goedecke and his wife, Nancy, to the fourth generation of the family, their two sons Herbert and Peter.
