NHIAA Roundup: Trinity's Currier stops Nashua North

Alex Currier pitched a complete game two-hitter and struck out eight to lead Trinity of Manchester to a 2-1 win against top-ranked Nashua North Thursday at Derryfield Park in Manchester.

"Big win for us," said Trinity head coach Eddie Poisson. whose team snapped a five-game losing streak to raise its record to 6-9. "We needed a win like this against a very good team and gives us confidence heading down the stretch of the regular season."

Currier threw 106 pitches and walked only two batters. Trinity led 1-0 in the first inning as Colby Fortin walked and advanced to third on a single by Carmen Giampetruzzi. Ryan Boldwin scored Fortin with a fielders' choice grounder to second base. The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Giampetruzzi walked, stole second and scored on a double by Boldwin. Nashua North scored in the fifth inning. Brandon Robbins walked, stole second and scored on a groundout by Chas Dewitt. In the seventh inning for Nashua North , Matt Fortin singled and advanced to second on a bunt. But Currier retired the last two batters to preserve the win, snapping Nashua North's six-game winning streak.

Nashua North (12-4) holds a half-game lead in Division I over 11-4 Londonderry.

Nashua South 4, Concord 3: In Concord, Joe Gouveia and J.J. Dunn combined on a six-hitter for 6-8 South. Gouveia walked two over six innings and Dunn gained the save.

Timberlane 4, Londonderry 3: On Wednesday, the Owls rallied for two runs in the seventh inning to pull out the win. Jake Welch and Zach Tavano each had an RBI for Londonderry.

Merrimack 10, Spaulding 5 : On Wednesday, Merrimack was led by two hits apiece from Brenden Holt, Taylor Black, Steve McFadden, Nate Cushman, and Brett Glendye, who drove in two runs. Devin Gillis pitched four relief innings, allowing one run and three hits.

Girls' lacrosse

Plymouth 10, Kingswood 6 :
At Plymouth, the Bobcats shut out Kingswood of Wolfeboro in the first half, and Risa Mosenthal finished with four goals in the win. Ann Furbush registered two goals and two assists for Plymouth (9-3). Kellie Lander made 10 saves for Kingswood (8-4).

Goffstown 10, Sanborn 0: At Kingston, Ben Couture smashed a three-run triple as Goffstown (15-1) poured on the runs. Adam Routhier had two doubles, and winning pitcher Tanner Putnam added a pair of hits. Putnam worked six innings, striking out eight batters and giving up two hits. Host Sanborn dropped to 5-9.

Boys' lacrosse

Central 13, Memorial 5:
At McDonough Middle School, Mark Beirne lit up the Crusaders with five goals and two assists. Connor Rowley scored four goals with two assists for Central (4-9). Kyle Vandebogart had 14 saves for Memorial (0-12).

Souhegan 16, Salem 4:
In Salem, Mack Walker and Joe Nutting each scored four goals for 7-6 Souhegan. Blake Burnley and Walker each contributed three assists. Salem is 3-10.

Pinkerton 18, Londonderry 3:
At Londonderry, Joshua Gallant's six goals helped Pinkerton of Derry (14-1) overpower the Lancers (7-7) on Thursday. Todd Billetter had four goals and two assists for the Astros, and goalie Kenny Sturgess made eight saves. John Derhale scored a hat trick for Londonderry.

Softball

Monadnock 3, Winnisquam 2:
At Swanzey, Stephanie Gonzalez ripped a single in the seventh inning to score Felicia Gaillardetz, and host Monadnock Regional won a playoff-like game against Winnisquam of Tilton on Wednesday. Winning pitcher Perri Adams allowed four hits. Jenna Beaulieu cracked a run-scoring double in the third inning for the Huskies (8-5).

Derryfield 13-8, Portsmouth Christian 11-23 :
In a doubleheader in Manchester on Wednesday, the Cougars snapped a 27-game losing streak dating back to last season. Lainee Shaughnessy, Savannah Lavoie, Anna Aboody, Erika Wentz and Anna Welch each had the key hits. Emily Moll came in relief in the second inning of the 13-11 win and gained the mound win.

Windham 13, Pembroke 2:
At Pembroke Academy, Windham broke up the game with eight runs in the seventh inning, highlighted with a home run by Haley Psareas and doubles by Hannah Klaassens and Rachel Vafides. Windham (10-4) belted out 21 hits.
