Londonderry Rotary to host classic car show

LONDONDERRY — Start your engines.

It’s almost time for the Londonderry Rotary Club’s annual Memorial Weekend Classic Car Show. Now in its 22nd season, the event is one of the club’s largest fundraisers.

This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, May 26, at Londonderry Square on Route 102, about a quarter of a mile west of Exit 4 on Interstate 93. The rain date for the car show is Monday, May 27.

Proceeds from the event will benefit a number of Rotary-sponsored local charities and college scholarships.

In previous years, the annual car show has featured more than 175 vehicles and raised thousands of dollars.

“When it’s a beautiful day outside, this is our biggest fundraiser,” Rotarian Reed Clark said this week.

Local car enthusiasts will have a variety of categories in which to enter their vehicles this year, including vehicle years 1949-59, 1960-69, 1970-79, and 1980 –present, as well as special interest, customized and antique vehicles, including street rods, trucks, vans, British makes, Camaros, Firebirds, Corvettes, Mustangs, Thunderbirds, motorcycles and foreign makes.

Awards will be given for various categories, with guests getting the chance to vote for their favorites. A cash prize will be awarded to the car club with the highest level of participation.

The day will also feature live music, entertainment, food, a disc jockey, raffles and prizes.

Those who wish to register in advance will save $5 per vehicle, with registration available on the day of the show for $15 per vehicle.

Car registration on the day of the event will be held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The car show begins at 10 a.m., with viewing to continue through 3:30 p.m. Awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m.

The public is welcome. Admission is $3 per adult or $7 per family. Children are admitted for free.

Information on renting vendor space is available upon request. For more information or to register, contact Bill Basler at 432-1166 or Reed Clark at 437-3914.
