Tom Herzig's Trackside: Tracks hoping nature cooperates this week

On Track This Week

Canaan Dirt: Friday, 7 p.m.

Lee USA: Friday, 7:15 p.m.

White Mountain: Saturday, 5 p.m.

Bear Ridge (Vt.): Saturday, 6 p.m.

Monadnock: Saturday, 6 p.m.

Canaan Asphalt: Saturday, 6 p.m.

Star Speedway: Saturday, 6 p.m.

Riverside Speedway: Sunday, 1 p.m.

Hudson Speedway: Sunday, 1 p.m.

Legion Speedway: Sunday, 5 p.m.

HUDSON SPEEDWAY got two events in over the weekend, Spencer Allen won at Legion Speedway in a 600cc Mini Sprint, and Thunder Road raced in sunshine Monday. Everybody else got to fire up the wood stove and wait for rescheduling news. Most tracks were rained out. White Mountain Motorsports Park got snowed out.

It could have been worse. I-44 Riverside Speedway, a ¼-mile dirt track in Moore, Okla., was devastated by the tornado that tore the town and its schools apart. The tornado was about a half-mile wide when it hit the race track. It was two miles wide when it hit the promoter's home down the line. The house was destroyed, but no one was harmed. The track is vowing to re-open — sometime.

Monadnock hit the reset button and will host the Granite State Pro Stock Series David's House 106 this Saturday.

Riverside Speedway in Groveton will try again to get its season under way Sunday with the American Canadian Tour headed in and the likes of Quinny Welch, Luke Shannon, Randy Potter and Bryan Mason lying in wait.

At Hudson Speedway on Sunday, Kevin Kephart of Rutland, Mass., won the Outlaw feature ahead of Todd Warren and Dean Wendell. The Rookie Stocks, Roadrunners and Thunder Lights raced both days. Ryan Tanguay of Lowell, Mass., won one feature and finished second to 2012 champion Jerry Lepage in the other.

Kris Schroeder of Haverhill, Mass., wired the field in Sunday's Thunder Lights main. He spent Monday's feature hot on the tail of winner Jarrett Howard of Pepperell, Mass. Dave "Hollywood" Helliwell and Billy Osborne ran 1-2 in the first Roadrunner feature. Osborne had another podium finish Monday, trailing only Marlborough, Mass., teenager Jarrod Soucy. Henry Sirignano of Abington, Mass., won Monday's V-6 Modified feature.

This Sunday, Hudson's race card includes a Dwarf Car Open, V-6 Mods, Rookies, Roadrunners, Thunder Lights and Spectator Drags.

Derrick O'Donnell of North Haverhill won the 51st Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic 100 at Thunder Road. O'Donnell took the lead on lap seven and at times had a big lead, but a flurry of late race cautions gave runner-up Nick Sweet, Trampas Demers and ACT regular Glenn Luce of Turner, Maine, several cracks at him. It was O'Donnell's first Late Model win at the "Nation's Site of Excitement." His first career Late Model win came at Riverside's "Fall Brawl" last October.

The Valenti Modified Series is off until Saturday, June 8, at Seekonk Speedway. With two races in the books, Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon, Pa., is the point leader.

Canaan Dirt and Canaan Asphalt have conjured up a "Race Cash Fever" fan promotion that could land a motorhead $10,000. It is sponsored by the law firm Cullenberg and Tensen, which has offices in Lebanon and Littleton. Three lucky ticketholders per night will get the chance to individually roll five dice (16 inches across). If they can manage to roll five snake eyes — the Cullenberg and Tensen logo actually — they pocket the check. The promo moves back and forth from Dirt to Asphalt until there's a winner. Local businessman Mike Moore, who helps out on Randy Howe's Modified, put the law firm up to it.

Star Speedway, which has had two rainouts in the last three weeks, will give it another go in Epping on Saturday. Jacob Dore of Alfred, Maine, Josh Cantara, Jim Boniface, Todd Patnode and Todd Annarummo finished 1-5 a week ago. Joe Squeglia Jr. and Ron Bolduc were 1-2 in the Outlaw feature.

Trackside appears Thursdays in the New Hampshire Union Leader.
