Trinity High grad Dylan Clark’s Elon squad wins at NCAA baseball

Dylan Clark’s team stayed alive in the NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

With Clark pitching five innings on Sunday, Elon University of North Carolina beat North Carolina-Wilmington, 6-4, in an elimination game in Charlottesville, Va. The victory enabled Elon to improve to 2-1 in the double-elimination regional and move on to a Sunday night matchup with host Virginia.

Clark, a Manchester resident and Trinity High graduate, did not figure in the decision. He started, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) over the five innings. He walked three and fanned none, coming out after 82 pitches.

Elon rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to forge ahead and move into the night game against the 2-0 Cavaliers.

UConn bounced

After winning its opener in the Blacksburg, Va., regional, the University of Connecticut dropped two straight. The Huskies suffered a heartbreaking 5-3, 12-inning loss to Oklahoma on Saturday, then fell to host Virginia Tech, 3-1, on Sunday.

Nashua’s Billy Ferriter, an outfielder, went 0-for-3 with a walk for the Huskies on Sunday. Another former Nashua South Purple Panther, Dan Feehan, hurled 2 2/3 innings of relief on Sunday, allowing one run on one hit. He fanned two and didn’t figure in the decision.
