Fisher Cats fall at Akron in 12

Jesus Aguilar’s two-out, walk-off, bases-loaded single in the 12th inning led Akron to a 3-2 Eastern League victory against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Tuesday at Canal Park in Akron.

New Hampshire began a six-game road trip last night and fell to 28-31 on the season.

New Hampshire reliever Matt Wright (1-2) took the loss, but nearly got out of a bases loaded situation in the 12th inning.

Twice in the inning with the bases loaded, Wright got a ground ball force-out at home. But Aguilar found a hole with his grounder to right field, scoring Jose Ramirez from third with the winning run.

Jose Flores (5-1) pitched two innings in relief and got the mound win.

New Hampshire grabbed a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning when Kevin Nolan doubled to start the frame and jogged home when Adam Loewen launched his sixth season homer over the right field fence. The Aeros got one back in the home fifth when Jake Lowery hit his first homer of the season to right.

Akron glued together a two-out rally in the sixth inning to tie the game. Adam Abraham singled and took second on a passed ball. After a walk to Carlos Moncrief, Abraham was replaced by pinch-runner Aguilar, who advanced to third on a walk to Roberto Perez. With Quincy Latimore batting, New Hampshire relief pitcher Chorye Spoone unleashed a wild pitch allowing Aguilar to score the tying run. Spoone struck out Latimore to end the inning.

New Hampshire starter Marcus Stroman got a no-decision, throwing five innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run, the homer to Lowery. He walked one and fanned three on 84 pitches, 46 for strikes.

Kevin Pillar, batting .316 from the lead-off spot for New Hampshire, had two his team’s six hits.

New Hampshire plays Akron today and Thursday before opening a three-game series at Erie on Friday.

Tonight at 7:05 p.m. the Fisher Cats send righthander Marcus Walden (4-5, 3.13) against Akron southpaw Matt Packer (2-5, 3.25).

The series finale at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday features righthander Deck McGuire (3-5, 5.40) dueling Aeros righty Toru Murata (2-3, 4.02).

Next week the Fisher Cats begin a six-game homestand on June 11 against Akron and Erie at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
