June 6 Central High School road race will benefit Boston bombing victims

MANCHESTER — The public is invited to participate Thursday in the 2-mile Central Runs Road Race, an event designed to raise money for One Fund Boston, the organization established to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

The race will start 1:30 p.m. at Manchester High School Central, loop around the north end and return to the school.

Registration involves a minimum donation of $20. The public can run in the race or donate to fund the registration for a needy student, said Shelli Cook, a Central guidance counselor and co-adviser to the Central Key Club, which is sponsoring the race along with the Central Student Council.

“There are a lot of people at Central who had close ties to people running (in the Boston Marathon) that day,” Cook said. “We just want to give back.”

Cook said people interested in donating can contact her or Student Council advisor Kelly Fox at scook@mansd.org, or kfox@mansd.org.

A registration table will be set up at 1 p.m. Thursday at the start of the race at Maple and Lowell streets. As of Tuesday morning, 125 students had signed up. Principal Ronald Mailhot and several teachers had made donations so students who could not afford the registration fee could run.
