Littleton VFW, co-op to honor Foster

LITTLETON — Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Littleton Food Co-op will honor a deceased veteran and former store employee when they celebrate Flag Day on June 14.

An American flag and a Prisoner of War flag will be raised at the co-op, where a newly installed flagpole will be dedicated to the memory of Greg Foster, a Vietnam War veteran and longtime Littleton resident who died in 2009.

Ed King, co-op manager, said Foster was a familiar figure locally, a meat cutter who worked at various markets in Littleton and Lincoln before joining the co-op.

VFW Post 816 in Littleton is donating both flags. A color guard from that post will conduct the noon ceremony.

Executive Councilor Ray Burton will the public event.

The project was spearheaded by longtime co-op employee Cutter Flynn and was completed with the help of co-op board member Tim Wennrich of Meadowstone Farm, according to King. He said that local VFW members Dan Greenlaw, Bill Sargent and Bill Richards were also instrumental in the effort.
