Fishers drop third straight

Jarek Cunningham broke a seventh inning tie with a two-out solo homer to spark Altoona to a 7-4 Eastern League victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Thursday in Altoona, Pa. It was the eighth straight win for the Curve (33-37) and third straight setback for the Fisher Cats (33-39), who continue their road trip tonight at 7 p.m. in Harrisburg, Pa.

Cunningham’s 14th season homer came off losing reliever Matt Wright (1-3), snapping a 4-4 tie.

In the eighth inning against reliever Chorye Spoone, Altoona stretched its lead to 7-4 on a run-scoring double by Gift Ngoepe and an RBI single from Mel Rojas.

New Hampshire took a 1-0 first inning lead on consecutive doubles from Adam Loewen and A.J. Jimenez, who had four hits.

Altoona tied the game in the home first when Charles Cutler drew a two-out, bases loaded walk. The Curve took a 2-1 lead in the second inning when Ngoepe singled to center and scored on a double by Rojas to left field.

The lead was extended to 4-1 in the third inning when Alex Dickerson singled and advanced to third on a double by Cunningham. Dickerson scored on a sacrifice fly from Cutler and later in the inning another sacrifice fly by Ngoepe plated Cunningham.

In the top of the seventh inning, New Hampshire tied the game at 4-4. Loewen singled with one out and scored on a double by Jimenez. Later in the inning, Kevin Nolan and Ryan Schimpf each provided RBI singles to knot the game.

New Hampshire starter Ryan Tepera worked five innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs. He fanned five and walked four.
