Walden’s shutout lifts Fisher Cats

Marcus Walden tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout as the Fisher Cats downed host Harrisburg 7-0 Sunday afternoon.

The 24-year old Walden (5-7), needed just 90 pitches for his fifth win. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out five for his first career complete game. It was the first nine-inning shutout for a Fisher Cats pitcher since Kyle Drabek’s no-hitter on July 4, 2010.

The Fisher Cats opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Brad Glenn (3-for-4) doubled, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a single by Clint Robinson for a 1-0 lead.

New Hampshire added a run in the top of the fifth inning. Jack Murphy singled, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Adam Loewen to put the Fisher Cats up, 2-0.

New Hampshire (35-40) broke the game open with a four-run top of the sixth inning. Glenn and A.J. Jimenez singled to start the inning. Brian Van Kirk (3-for-5, two RBIs) singled Glenn home and Jimenez moved to third and scored on a wild pitch. After Murphy walked, Kevin Ahrens ripped a two-run double to put the Fisher Cats up 6-0.

New Hampshire scored again in the top of the seventh inning. Andy Burns doubled and scored on a single by Van Kirk for a 7-0 lead.

Nolin strong on Saturday

Fisher Cats lefty starter Sean Nolin matched a career-best by working seven innings and allowing one as New Hampshire scored three times in the top of the eighth inning en route to a 4-1 win in Harrisburg on Saturday night.

Nolin (4-2) allowed a first inning home run to Steven Souza, but allowed only three singles the rest of the way.

He did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
