UPDATED: Mass. woman seriously injured in Route 101 crash in Temple

TEMPLE— A Massachusetts woman was flown by helicopter to UMass Worcester Medical Center Monday morning after a crash on Route 101.

Valerie Hatch, 70, of Danvers, Mass., was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit, Temple-Greenville Police Sgt. Michael Needham said Monday evening.

Police and emergency workers responded to the scene around 9:30 a.m. for a report of a car versus truck crash in which a person had been ejected from a vehicle.

Hatch was driving a 2006 Honda Elantra east on Route 101 when , according to witnesses, the Honda crossed the yellow line and struck a westbound commercial vehicle, Needham said.

Needham said Hatch was found partially ejected from the Honda. He did not know what her specific injuries were. The other vehicle was a 2013 Freightliner owned by Admiral Metals of Woburn, Mass., and was driven by Ronald Rose, 49, of Nashua. From the scene Wilton-Lyndeborough Ambulance took him to St. Joseph's in Nashua for medical treatment. Needham said Rose had minor cuts and bruises.

Due to the severity of her injuries, Wilton-Lyndeborough Ambulance took Hatch to Monadnock Mountain Spring Water Inc. on Route 101 where there was enough space for a helicopter to land to take her to UMass Worcester, Needham said.

What caused the Honda to cross the yellow line into oncoming traffic remains under investigation, Needham said.
