Iginla in, Horton out for Bruins

The Boston Bruins signed veteran forward Jarome Iginla while former Bruin Nathan Horton agreed to terms on a seven-year, $37.1 million contract with Columbus Friday in a busy first day of free agency in the NHL.

Iginla’s deal is a one-year, $6 million contract, TSN reported. He turned 36 Monday and had declined a trade from the Calgary Flames to the Bruins in April, instead accepting a deal to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In 1,232 NHL games (Calgary and Pittsburgh), Iginla has 530 goals, 576 assists and 840 penalty minutes.

Horton, one of the top free agents in this year’s pool, said last week he would test his options and not likely return to the Bruins. Horton scored 13 goals in 47 regular season games.

The Bruins also lost backup goaltender Anton Khudobin to Carolina, reportedly for a one-year deal.


The Los Angeles Kings signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Jeff Schultz, but lost center Mike Richardson, who signed with Vancouver as well as defenseman Rob Scuderi, who agreed to a four-year contract worth $3.375 million per year with Pittsburgh.
