Salem tops Manchester North in District I Little League tournament

Nick Robertson singled home Matt Soldano in the top of the sixth inning to lead Salem past Manchester North, 8-7, in the winners’ bracket game of the District I New Hampshire Little League tournament in Salem Tuesday.

Salem is now one win away from winning the District I tournament and will await its next opponent on Saturday at 1 p.m. Manchester North falls into the losers’ bracket final and will await its opponent on Friday at 6 p.m.

On Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a losers’ bracket game, Bedford will travel to Goffstown.

Salem led, 7-0, in the first inning behind a pair of three-run homers from Robertson and John Olivo. North battled back, getting four runs in the first inning and then tying the game in the third on a three-run homer from Brendon Courtney.

Olivo, in relief, held North scoreless over the last three innings to register the mound win.
