Manchester 14-year-old Babe Ruth team still cruising

The Manchester 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars are 2-0 and have yet to allow a run in the state tournament in Barrington.

Sunday, Matt Reynolds fired a 3-hit shutout, lifting Manchester past Portsmouth, 6-0. Reynolds walked two and fanned four.

Manchester’s big inning was the fourth. Singles by Ryan Wickey, Nate Hall and Drew Merrick set up John Robinson, who cleared the bags with a double to the left-center gap.

Jake Currier later doubled and scored on Joey Davis’ hit.

Manchester next plays on Wednesday at 5 p.m. back in Barrington, against the winner of Sunday’s Goffstown-Barrington game.

Babe Ruth 13’s

Bedford 5, Exeter 2: Grant Lavigne was a one-man wrecking crew on Sunday at the state tournament in Rochester, throwing a complete-game two-hitter and clubbing three doubles and scoring three runs. On the mound, Lavigne walked two and fanned six.

Joey Barrett contributed two hits and two RBIs, and Landon Jennings added a pair of hits for Bedford, which beat North Country of Littleton in an opener on Saturday. Bedford will play Goffstown, 10-0 winners over Manchester on Sunday, on Wednesday back in Rochester.

American Legion

Londonderry 6, Salem 5: Christian Bourgea’s grounder up the middle found its way through the infield, scoring Jake Cassidy (single) from second base, allowing the hosts to take a 10-inning walk-off win at Londonderry High.

Zach Tavano had a day to remember, going 4-for-5, including a double. Rob DelSignore added two hits for Londonderry, which improved 8-3 in District B.

Keith Simpson earned the victory, pitching the final four innings and allowing one run on three hits.

Mitch Dufton was 3-for-4, with a pair of runs batted in, and Mike Ryan had two hits for Salem (6-8).
Derry 8, Hudson 3: Andrew Herlihy threw 102 pitches in a complete game, allowing eight hits and only two earned runs while striking out two. Derry (10-3) took control with four runs in the first inning, and was led offensively by Dan Morin (double, three RBIs), Grant Wagner (two doubles, RBI), Pat Mahoney (two hits, two RBIs) and Chris Gerossie (three hits).

Dakota Williams took the pitching loss for Hudson (7-5).
