Suspicious ‘bombs’ found in Wakefield house determined to be fake

WAKEFIELD — A Province Lake Road resident who was cleaning out his father’s house came across two suspicious looking pipes on Saturday.

According to Wakefield Police Department Lt. Mark O’Brien, officers found two pipes, one with a fuse attached. The officers then contacted the NH State Police Bomb Squad. The Wakefield Fire-Rescue Department was called in as a precaution.

The homeowner told police his father had recently passed away and he was cleaning out the home when he found the pipes in a drawer.

Lt. O’Brien said the bomb squad and a member of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms responded and removed the items, which were later detonated and deemed as hoax devices with no explosive material found inside.

Police ask anyone who finds suspicious items or devices not to touch them and to contact police.
