Hanagans reach Ruth 14 finals, Woodlock 15s advance

Righthander Drew Merrick pitched a five-hitter over 6 1/3 innings to lead the Manchester Mickey Hanagan All-Stars past Barrington 5-2 in the winners' bracket finals of the 14-year-old New Hampshire Babe Ruth baseball tournament at Barrington Wednesday.Merrick struck out six and walked two. Pat Swanson came in relief in the top of the seventh inning with runners on first and second and one out. Swanson induced a pop-out to shortstop Johnny Robinson and fanned the last batter to preserve the win.Garet Olivar collected three hits for two RBIs. Robinson added two hits and Nate Hall also contributed a double and a single.

On defense centerfielder Joey Silver and leftfielder Nick Salito each made a great catch to prevent Barrington from scoring two runs in the fifth inning. Jason Derome added two hits and scored two runs in the win.Manchester will play in the championship finals at 2 p.m. Saturday in Barrington.

BRL 15-year-olds

Manchester Tom Woodlock All-Stars 17, Rochester 6: Manchester will meet undefeated Keene Thursday at 3 p.m. at Alumni Field in Keene in the finals of the state 13-15-year-old Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament. Manchester must win to force a second and title game at 5:30 p.m.

Manchester had 10 hits against Rochester led by Grant Corbett with two hits and one RBI. Jake Gendron had a bases-loaded double and Miller Ouellette contributed two hits and scored two runs. Jason Marquis added an RBI single and scored three runs.

American Legion

Londonderry 10, Hudson 1: Londonderry continued its winning ways. The team has won five of its last six games under manager Rick Brothers. On offense for Londonderry, Ryan Moloney (three hits, two RBI), Austin Marino (three hits, two doubles, three RBI) and Zach Tavano (three hits) were the big hitters.

Londonderry, now 10-4 in District B, will play in Dover at 5:15 p.m. at Dunaway Field today.Derry 6, Dover 4: In Derry at Pinkerton Academy on Wednesday, Jamie Collins had two hits including a solo homer to lead Derry (11-4). Justin Bundzinski and Jeff Singster each collected two hits for Derry which had eight hits.

Josh Yaratz pitched eight innings for the win, allowing nine hits. He fanned two and walked two. Riley Cahill gained the mound save. Derry will travel to play Rochester Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
