Babe Ruth, LL finals on tap Saturday
In Babe Ruth action, the 13-year-old state championship final is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in Rochester between Bedford and Goffstown, which was a 6-4 winner over the Manchester Ray Lebel All-Stars Friday.
And in the Little League 11-12 year-old state championship, District I winner Salem will meet District II champ Rye at the Manchester Central Little League field at 4 p.m.
Goffstown 6, Manchester 4: Goffstown got in the final word in a back-and-forth losers’ bracket final. Goffstown broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth to set up today’s meeting with Bedford.
Manchester had to survive a scare earlier in the afternoon when it completed a rain-suspended losers’ bracket game with Exeter.
Manchester won 8-6 when Keegan Hall doubled home Eric Langley and Aidan Horne in the eighth inning.
Portsmouth 12, Barrington 4: The hosts were ousted on Friday night as Portsmouth cruised in the losers’ bracket final to earn a place in the championship.
Salem vs. Rye: Salem earned its spot in the finals with a come-from-behind win over Bedford on Monday when John Olivo hit a two-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
