Jean Reynolds shot a 6-under-par 66 to claim the top spot in the first round of the Symetra Tour’s “Road to the LPGA” Northeast Delta Dental International at Concord’s Beaver Meadow Friday.

The field of 138 golfers battled the 90-plus degree heat and will tee off again today for round two starting at 8 a.m.

Lisanne Schmidt, an amateur from Grantham participating in the event, shot a 9-over 81 to finish tied for 133rd.

Six players ended round one tied for second place with a 66. They were: Cydney Clanton, Kim Kaufman, Birdie Kim, Britney Hamilton, P.K. Kongkraphan and Christine Song.

Reynolds, who hails from Newnan, Ga., began play on the back nine and quickly got into a groove. Reynolds recorded birdies on five of the nine holes and made par on the other four.

She had an up-and down front nine holes to close the day, scoring birdies on holes 2, 4, 5 and 9 but struggling with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 through 8.

“I hit the ball close on the back nine,” Reynolds said. “And on the front, I made a couple more birdies on the par-5, then I made three bogeys and that really annoyed me, but I was able to birdie the last hole.”

A member of the Road to the LPGA since 2008, Reynolds is looking for her second career Symetra Tour victory.

Among the players right behind Reynolds are 2013 tournament winners Song, Clanton, and Kaufman, and 2005 U.S. Women’s Open champion Kim.
