Derry's American Legion baseball team finished its District B regular season with authority, riding a 10-run fifth inning to a 15-1 victory over Exeter Saturday at Phillips-Exeter Academy.
Chris Gerossie earned the pitching victory, allowing only one hit over his five innings while striking out two and walking one. Justin Bundzinski pitched a scoreless sixth for Derry, and Rick Casey allowed Exeter's lone run in the seventh.
Among Derry's hot bats were those of Jamie Collins (2-for-4, double, three RBIs), Grant Wagner (2-for-5, triple, 3 RBIs, three runs), Pat Mahoney (2-for-3, two RBIs) and Jeff Singster (2-for-4, two doubles, RBI).Derry will begin its quest for the state crown as the No. 2 seed From District B, when the Legion state tournament begins on Friday in Concord.
