DOVER — Police arrested a Somersworth man after they say he robbed two homes and ran from officers early Sunday morning.

Michael Skidmore, 26, of 1 Short St., Somersworth, was charged with six counts of burglary and resisting arrest or detention.

Skidmore was arrested after police stopped a vehicle along Lisa Beth Circle Sunday around 4 a.m. Police said he fled on foot after the vehicle has stopped but was apprehended by officers within a few minutes.

Police found evidence which they say connected Skidmore to two burglaries that night on Lisa Beth Circle and along Tolend Road. As a result, investigators linked Skidmore to four other burglaries – two along Roosevelt Avenue on July 19, one along Cherokee Street July 12, and one along Hamilton Street June 29, according to police.

“In many of these cases, residents were home when the burglaries occurred,” a police statement indicated.

Police determined the homes were entered through unlocked doors or by pushing in air conditioner window units. In most cases, purses or wallets were stolen, and in one case a vehicle was taken from a Cherokee Street residence. Officers later recovered the vehicle July 21.

Skidmore, who had been held at the Strafford County jail on $2,500 cash bail since his arrest, was arraigned Monday morning in 7th Circuit Court, Dover District Division, where his bail was increased to $25,000 cash only. He is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing Aug. 2 at 10 a.m.

Police continue to investigate the matter and encourage residents with information to contact Dover Police at 742-4646 or use the Dover Crimeline at 749-6000 or by email at
